No tour of Ireland is complete without a trip to an Irish whiskey distillery. Even though it may have all started in Bow street Dublin in the 1780’s, it was not long before Jameson headed south and made its home in Middleton a mere twenty minutes outside Cork city. In the 1700’s and 1800’s there was an abundance of distilleries in the Cork area, yet people continued to hold stills in private houses before it became regulated. As the saying goes cream always floats to the top and indeed this is the case with Jameson. After stemming from such humble beginnings when John Jameson started his whiskey manufacturing journey in 1780, this distillery is now one of the largest manufacturers of whiskey in the world. The Jameson Experience tour is very highly rated, at a cost of €19 per person and taking 1 hour 15 mins to complete. When all is said and done, you will even get a taste of the good stuff right at the end! Jameson are responsible for a lot of brands like Green and Yellow spot whiskey as well as ‘Red breast’. More expensive brews like ‘Middleton rare’ are all available in the gift shop too and you can put personalised messages on any bottle you purchase.
